State and Local Hospitalization (SLH)

State and Local Hospitalization (SLH) provides direct payment to hospitals for individuals who are unable to pay for required medical services.

If you live with someone who is legally responsible for you, these people also must be unable to pay your medical needs. This includes spouses for each other and parents for children and stepchildren under age 18.

Medical Services Covered is limited to:   

   1.     Hospitalization

   2.     Out Patient Surgery

   3.     Emergency Room visit

   4.     Health Department Visits

In-patient and outpatient doctor visits are not covered.

If you know you are going to be hospitalized or have outpatient surgery you can apply for SLH beforehand.  You can also apply for SLH within 30 days of your discharge or the date services were provided.

If eligible, you will be covered for 180 days.
